Bring ID with you

Such as your driver’s licence and any other photo ID that you have. Remember to bring any discount cards or rental vouchers that relate to Southern Cross Truck Rentals.

Minimum Age

A person under the age of 21 years is not permitted to drive a rental vehicle at any time.

A person on a Learner’s Permit or Provisional Licence is not permitted to drive a rental vehicle at any time.

A Person under the age of 23 years is not permitted to drive a prime mover at any time.

Additional drivers

Additional drivers must be of the minimum age (see above) and insured.
To be insured, the additional driver must present his/her driver’s licence to us and have their name noted on the Rental Agreement as an additional driver.

Rental Charges

Rental charges are based on the length of the rental and the type of vehicle rented.

In some cases you will need to complete a credit card application form before the rental can take place as we reserve the right to refuse cash as payment for rental charges.

Payments

Generally, we accept cash, credit cards, debit cards and direct deposits.

We reserve the right to refuse cash.

Direct deposits must be cleared by our bank approximately 48 hours before the vehicle is to be picked up.

Refunds

You only pay for the days you have the vehicle. If you return the rental vehicle early you will be refunded for each day.

Refunds are refunded on a 24 hour basis. (Vehicles on leases are excluded.)

Security Bonds

To protect Southern Cross Truck Rentals, you will need to pay a cash bond for ‘standard car licence’ trucks.

You can pay your bond by credit or debit card for larger vehicles.

Credit card only is accepted for vehicles with a GVM over 4.5 tonnes.

Up to 16t GVM - rental more than 2 weeks:	$500 plus one week rental in advance.
Up to 16t GVM - rental less than 2 weeks:	Total cost of the rental in advance.
Over 16t GVM - rental more than 2 weeks:	$1500 plus two weeks rental in advance.
Over 16t GVM - rental less than 2 weeks:	Total cost of the rental in advance.

Bond refunds

At the end of the rental, when all inspections and payments have been completed to our satisfaction, we will refund your bond. If you have paid your bond with a credit card, your refund may take up to 3 days for bank processing.

Optional damage liability cover

This is insurance to cover your liability for damage to the rental vehicle. Without this insurance you will be liable for the full cost of the excess that is applicable to the rental vehicle.

The excess on vehicles up to 16t GVM can be reduced for an extra $33 per day.

Cleaning Fee

A vehicle returned in an unclean state can expect a cleaning fee.

Traffic Infringements

All parking, traffic and toll violations are the responsibility of the hirer who will be charged an administration fee of $25 per violation.

This charge is for Southern Cross Truck Rentals to pass on traffic infringements to the hirer of the vehicle at the time of receiving notice of the infringement.

This charge will be made against the hirer’s credit or debit card without notice and notification will be sent to the hirer at the home or business address provided at the time of the rental.

Defect Notice

If the rental vehicle is given a defect by the RTA or Police you must notify us immediately when returning the vehicle. You must ensure that the ORIGINAL of the defect notice is given to a staff member of Southern Cross Truck Rentals.

Delivery and collection

We will deliver and collect the vehicle for a fee.

This service can be arranged when you make your booking and certain conditions apply.

This service is subject to peak seasons, time of day and staff availability.

You will need to fill in a “Delivery Request Form” available from our office.

Semi-trailer pick up

Our semi-trailers and prime movers are kept at Narellan - 316 Camden Valley Way Narellan NSW 2567 - Click here for map and contact details.

You will need to pick up your vehicle from this location.

Area of use

At the time of rental, you will be asked where you intend using the vehicle.

You do not require authorisation within a 1200km radius from point of pick up.

You need our authorisation to use the rental vehicle outside this area.

Rental length and extension

Your rent agreement is for a fixed length of time. Rents are charged on a 24 hour basis.

A 3 hour grace period applies to most rentals. After this, additional days will be charged.

Fuel and refuelling

When you pick up your rental vehicle the tank will be full. We ask that you always return the vehicle with a full tank.

If the tank is less than full you will be charged a rate of $2.50 per litre to refill the tank.

Driver’s Diary & weighbridge

If travelling more than 200 kilometres from your depot and driving a vehicle over 14t GVM, you MUST complete your driver’s diary. These are available from the RTA for $20.

Any vehicle over 8t GVM MUST enter the weighbridge – no exceptions.

Accidents

In the event of an motor vehicle accident you need to report the accident to Southern Cross Truck Rentals as soon as possible and within 24 hours.

Make sure that you get all the details of any third parties, witnesses and police that attended the scene.

Do not make any statement relating to liability. If the rental vehicle is not able to be driven and needs to be towed we will organise a tow truck.

Breakdowns, flat tyres, keys lost or locked in the vehicle.

If your rental vehicle breaks down call 0423 774 656. All rental vehicles are covered by 24 hour roadside assistance.

You can use the spare tyre to change your own flat tyre.

Southern Cross Truck Rentals reserve the right to charge you for all expenses incurred on callouts relating to incidents other than mechanical failure. These might include incorrect fuel in vehicle, off road recovery, punctures or wheel changes, keys lost or locked in vehicles.

If you lose the keys to your rental vehicle, a replacement fee of $75 will be payable.

If any item of property is recovered in any rental vehicle or on our premises, Southern Cross Truck Rentals will take all reasonable steps to identify and locate the rightful owner.

Southern Cross Truck Rentals accept no obligation or responsibility and no guarantee is made that lost items will be recovered and returned to the owner.

Items of property will be held for a maximum of 7 days after contacting the owner.
