Can I book additional equipment or extras?

Of course! If you’re moving house or even interstate, we have packing boxes, rope, blankets, trolleys and other moving equipment to make the jobs easier for you. If you’re hiring a mini bus we have luggage trailers that connect to the back, so all of your equipment is safely packed. If you have any special requirements just ask us.

Can I book a driver to drive my rental bus?

Yes. Whether you want the bus for a wedding charter or wine tour and need a designated driver, or you need to hire a 25-seater bus but don’t have the licence to drive it, we’ll organise someone who can. To make sure you get the best value for money and what’s most convenient, you can pay the driver by the hour, or by project. Take a look at our driver hire page for more details.

Can I request rates without making a reservation?

Yes, definitely. When you make an enquiry on our website one of our friendly team members will give you a call to confirm your requirements. If you have any questions we’re more than happy to answer them, no obligation.

Can I choose the model of vehicle I want?

We understand that, especially for long haul, heavy vehicle truck drivers, comfort and familiarity are key. That’s why our fleet reflects the most popular European truck models used by regular drivers. Is the rental period extendable?

In most cases, yes. If you want to extend your rental, just give us a call on 02 4633 6100. We’ll usually confirm the details and new return date and time on the spot.

What are the rental terms and conditions?

A full copy of the terms and conditions is provided in the contract that is signed when collecting your vehicle. All vehicles have a Toll tag in the vehicle and the tolls are managed through the RMS (Roads and Maritime Service.)

Can another person drive the vehicle I have booked?

Yes, they can as long as they have the correct license and we receive a copy of their licence.

How do I pay for the reservation?

You can pay with credit card, cash or direct deposit.

Can I collect or return the vehicle at any time of day or night?

If you need to collect or return a rental truck before or after normal trading hours just let us know when making your reservation. While there may be additional charges, we’re always more than happy to accommodate your needs. If you need an emergency truck rental in the middle of the night, we’ll organise that too. If I am not Australian, do I need an International Driver’s License to rent a vehicle?

No, you can rent any of our vehicles with any foreign license, except for the prime movers. To rent a prime mover you need an Australian license. You do need to ensure you have a license of the correct class to hire our larger vehicles (Light Rigid, Medium Rigid, Heavy Rigid.)

Is there a cancellation fee?

There is a 10% cancellation fee if you cancel within 24 hours of the booking start time. Minimum cancellation fee is $25.

How can I pay if I do not have a credit card in my name?

You can pay cash, Eftpos or direct deposit. You will however need a credit card to secure the vehicle. This can be supplied by a family member or friend, with their consent.

What insurance do I need?

All vehicles have comprehensive insurance, however you can reduce the excess for a small fee of $30 + GST per day.

What time can I pick up the vehicle?

We’re open Monday - Friday from 8am - 5pm and 8am - 12 midday on weekends. If you need to collect a vehicle earlier or later, just give us a call and we’ll arrange it for you.

Once I’ve made a booking can I change it?

Of course, just give us a call and we’ll see what we can do.

Can I book online?

Can I book multiple vehicles at once?

Yes. If you need multiple vehicles please call us.

How do I know when my booking is confirmed?

Once we’ve completed your booking with you over the phone, our team will send a confirmation email with all of your booking details included.

Is a deposit or bond required when collecting the vehicle?

Yes, a deposit is required for all vehicles when you collect the vehicle.

Does roadside assistance cover me if I lock the keys in the vehicle?

Yes it does, however a call out fee will be charged.

Can I rent moving equipment with a truck?

Yes, we have a range of trolleys, ropes, blankets and even boxes to make your move easier. Our moving equipment hire is suitable whether you’re going to the next suburb or the next state.

Can I rent a baby seat?

No. As Southern Cross Truck Rental specialises in truck and work vehicle rentals, we don’t stock baby seats.

What happens if the rental vehicle breaks down?

Call us on 02 4633 6100. Our 24-hour roadside assistance service will have your rental vehicle repaired or replaced to get you back on the road in the shortest time possible.

Do you have a loyalty discount system?

We don't offer loyalty cards but if you’re booking long term hire, or multiple vehicles at once, we’ll always give you the most competitive rate.

Is damage cover included in the quote?

All vehicles include comprehensive insurance. You can reduce the excess for a small fee of $30 + GST per day.

Why do rental rates fluctuate?

The cost of fuel and labor, time and distance travelled all have an impact on rental prices. Rental rates vary between competitors and may also vary depending on the time of day and the type of rental you choose - whether that’s one-way, daily or long-term. Contact us for more information on our rental rates.

Are there additional charges for a rental?

There are a range of extras that can be purchased with your rental. Additional kilometre penalties apply if you exceed the contractual agreement. And if the vehicle is not returned with a full tank of fuel, a refuelling fee will apply, and the fuel charged at $2.50 per litre.

Is there a minimum rental period?

The minimum rental period for all of our vehicles is one day, or 24 hours. Contact us for our best one-day rental deals.

What happens if I return the vehicle late?

A late fee of $45 will apply for vehicles returned later than the contracted rental agreement. If you are running late can you please call us on 02 4633 6100 to let us know.

Can I return the vehicle to a different location?

Unlike many other rental companies, we offer one-way truck hire and interstate truck hire at very competitive rates. So if you’re moving interstate, or taking a delivery of goods, but one way only, we’ll organise for you to pick-up the vehicle in one place and collect it from you at the other end.

How can I change or cancel a booking?

To make any changes all you need to do is give us a call on 02 4633 6100. Provided it’s not within the no-cancellation period, we’ll do our best to amend the booking to suit your needs.

What do I do if I have an accident in the rental vehicle?

Our 24-hour roadside assistance service is designed for if your rental unfortunately gets caught up in an accident.

Can I drive the vehicle outside NSW?

Yes. Our trucks and buses can be driven interstate, however you’ll need to let us know when making your booking. All of our vehicles come with 200-kilometres driving included. For one-way interstate rentals, click here.

What is the difference between daily, weekly and weekend rental rates?

We offer daily rates, which last for a period of 24 hours, weekday rentals, from Monday to Friday, 7-day weekly rates and weekend rates, which include Friday afternoon to Sunday.

What do I do if the vehicle breaks down?

We have a 24-hour roadside assistance service to get you back on the road in the shortest time possible. Just call us on 02 4633 6100 any time of the day or night and we’ll either repair the vehicle or replace it - whichever gets you going again sooner.

Do I need to check the vehicle when returning the keys?

Any vehicle faults must be reported to Southern Cross Truck Rental staff when returning the keys.

Can I rent a GPS with the vehicle?

We do not have any GPS devices for rental.
